Portman

1.5 Hour Apart and 12 Years Time Lapse.
They say, you’ll usually see changes to a city within 10 years. For Shanghai or other large cities in China, it’s probably 1-2 years. Shanghai was the first city in China that we went to. That was at least 12 years go. & For quite a long time, that left a pretty bad image of China on my mind. Things have changed since then & with the direct flight out from the heart of Taipei, the two cities are now linked by …(continue reading…)

Passing by the Jing’an temple on our way from the Hongqiao Airport to our hotel. This really stands out from its surrounding. But it looks like it has just been repainted recently.

This time we stayed at the Portman Ritz Carlton. It’s at a pretty convenient location. This view from our hotel room on the 36th floor reminds me a bit of a photo I took in Tokyo some time ago: [Tokyo] City Without Edge.

There’s iphone/ipod dock in the room. Time to blast iphone music.
Our room. Not what we reserved but awesome!

Breakfast room in the hotel. Some 4-people seats are encased in something that resembles a Chinese bird cage.

The street outside of our hotel is lined with brand name stores. This glowing Miu Miu is right outside of the hotel complex. The hotel is at a very convenient location with all kinds of restaurants, stores, etc. around. There’s a Starbucks and a supermarket that sells all kinds of foreign supermarket stuff.
Most importantly, there’s a famous Taiwanese dumpling restaurant right in our hotel complex. We usually have to line up for 30-60 mins to eat at this chain restaurant in Taipei. It’s so much more accessible here. But the price for the same things is a bit higher here than in Taiwan.

So whenever in doubt of what/where to eat, we ate at Ding’Tai’Feng (there are several restaurants around).

There are still somethings in Shanghai that you might find a bit strange. This man just fell asleep mid-day by the side of the street.

Sunset in Pudong – the area of Shanghai that is filled with modern high-rise.

This building to the left has a nickname: can opener because of its design (can’t see from here). With all the tall buildings in the Pudong area of Shanghai, you’d think you’re in Toronto or Canary Wharf.

We had our dinner at a Shanghainese restaurant on the 10F of the Zheng’da Building in Pudong. It has a spectacular view of the Bund.

All that glitters along the Bund.

Sashimi! The lobster was still moving!! It looks pretty fresh but I’m still a bit afraid of trying out anything raw here.

Very  “crispy" jellyfish head. Restaurant interior. Desert soup.
