The Pier-2 Art Centre, Kaohsiung
In many countries the old warehouses by the harbour have been transformed into spaces for art and dining. The same applies to the Pier-2 Art Centre in Kaohsiung. The red-brick buildings of this warehouse district have now been trasnformed into a hub for exhibitions, shops, restaurants and concerts. As… (continue in English here)
Pier-2 Art Centre – these red brick buildings have been converted into shops and cafe/restaurants.
This shop was quite interesting. You could “customize" a shirt by choosing the different pieces of fabric you’d like to use for the various part of your shirt from a selection of fabric “pouches" on a wall. & Their store sign says “WE ARE NOT A FACTORY BUT A GROUP OF TAILORS".
There’s also a very interseting stationary store with some fun antiques (eg. this cash machine antique actually still works!)
The space for the Art Centre still seems to be expanding.
Other than selling hand-craft or artsy things, there were also little shops selling snacks, ice-cream, cotton candy, etc.
Outdoor art pieces fill the area around Pier-2 Art Centre.

The Art Centre area is quite busy on weekends. If you want to avoid the queues for exhibitions or don’t want to be squeezing through people in stores, can consider going on a weekday.
If you don’t want to see any of the exhibition that requires an admission fee, there are also other free exhibitions that you could check out.
